Darts Club, Cambridge, UK.
Aromatic indie cow-punk glazed in folk roots and flash fried in an organic new wave, retro-pop jelly.
Darts Club were formed in 2001 by singer/songwriter Rob Hughes and guitarist/bass player
Dave Seabright, both of ex-perennial Cambridge favourites Pogul Magee.
Having recorded the well received "A Fear of Beards" acoustic CD with Glenn Jobson
(formerly of Slinky and Blind Velma), the duo became a three-piece, with
Glenn joining as bass player, having played organ on the acoustic CD.
Joined next by Sarah Stow on drums (ex of many bands), the first full Darts
Club line up was complete, and they met the Cambridge scene with a fervour
and fresh organic style.
"The Wind Factory" (2002) CD followed - a much rounder affair - and again received well.
By 2003-2004, the band were receiving more attention and released their first full length
CD album "A Picture Of Health".
A fantastic mix of spanners and spikes and bondage and biscuits. Prior to the release of
this, Darts Club were joined by another ex-Slinky and Blind Velma musician - organ
player Simon Powell.
Darts club released their latest CD, 'Cook the Books' in February of 2005, and
played frequently throughout the year in and around the Cambridge area. Highlights
of the year involved playing on the main stage at Strawberry Fair,
and being voted to play at the Cambridge Corn Exchange
in the 'Best of Cambridge unsigned bands' event.
In October 2005, Sarah left Darts Club to tour the country (and the world!)
full-time with another
band, and we thank her for the hard work she put in over the
years - both bashing the drums, and also fixing us up with lots of gigs. We
wish her lots of love and luck and plenty of cakes.
Back in Cambridge, Darts Club continued with a new drummer, Dave Burley,
and the new line-up made its live debut in the Summer of 2006.
Darts Club decided to stop playing together in 2007, but you can still contact
the members of the band and buy CDs via this website.
